It All Began With Mom

Fox Trot

In the 70's, my mom danced 3 nights a week at the Bellvue in Windsor Ontario. As a 'mature' 15 year old, I'd go with her, have a bite to eat, and watch mom dance with Harry, a ballroom dancer. The server brought our table pitchers of coke, and we had such a good time dancing and laughing, that the others at the dance hall thought our pitcher must have contained alcohol.

In those days, 'disco' music topped the charts, and I sat mesmorized by the 'older' couples on the dance floor performing their magical movements together, which I later learned were social Ballroom & Latin dance steps. Since then, I searched for a partner who was willing to take dance lessons with me.

Kathryn & Katheleen

In November 2010, during a fund-raising dance at the Aeolian in London, Katheleen asked me to dance. While on the dance floor, Katheleen asked me if I thought we would make good ballroom dance partners, and I agreed that we would. Katheleen's 'proposal' started our journey together as dance partners... our weekly dance lessons laid the foundation for permanent life partnership.

Learning to dance together taught us a lot about ourselves, and each other. We experienced every emotion a person and couple can feel; the thrill of moving our bodies together in synchronized and not so synchronized movement at times, joy because of our continued improvement, fear of not learning as quickly as the other partner, frustration when we couldn't remember some step while practicing at home, and total bliss when we knew our footwork and our dance steps worked together in perfect harmony. Not overlooking the physical aches and pains we endured, we're now enjoying every chance we get to spend together dancing to our hearts' content. We both believe that every young couple who are thinking of making their relationship permanent, should take dance lessons together first. Combining a couple's love with good music and dance, I can't think of a better way to discover whether or not the relationship has a good chance of thriving 'until death do you part'.
